Voice and Choice: Promoting Accountability and Equity in Development
Council 2010 was held on 21 and 22 October and looked at two important trends in the world of aid and development:
- Governments are attempting to be more accountable to the poorest in societies by ensuring aid policies reduce inequality by targeting the poorest 20 per cent to make a difference in their lives. What is the international experience?
-
Accountability by NGOs to the primary stakeholders they work with — the partners and communities in developing countries. This has been a major theme of ACFID's work in 2010, involving research and member workshops.
- Dr Gopakumar Thampi, Head of the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability, South Asia Region and the Global Partnership Fund on Social Accountability, Institute of Governance Studies, BRAC University, Dhaka.
- Adriano Campolina Soares, Regional Director for the Americas, ActionAid International (also head of ActionAid's Food & Hunger theme).
- Dr Barb Wigley, Programme & Membership Services Coordinator, Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP).
