Chris Wark - Biography

chris warkChris Wark is bringing to ACFID over ten years’ experience in directly managing or providing technical input into small to large projects/programs, mainly in the environment/community development and stakeholder consultation sectors both in Australia and in developing countries and various donors including AusAID, CIDA, the World Bank and SPREP. He has worked across diverse sectors and with stakeholders from wide ranging backgrounds including: senior government (local, state, federal and international); donor agencies; non-government organisations; advisers and officials; companies; consultants; and, community representatives, particularly in Australia and Asia-Pacific countries such as Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea (PNG), the Solomon Islands, Palau and Thailand (where he started his journey into development as a volunteer on the Thai-Burma border).

Chris has completed a Master of Social Science (RMIT) specialising in International Urban and Environmental Management, which encompassed environmental, international development as well as stakeholder engagement/consultation and community development in a majority of its subjects. Chris also completed a Bachelor of Science (ANU), focusing on Environmental Resource Management, which also included completing the equivalent of a major in Cultural Anthropology that incorporated the study of both contemporary and traditional Aboriginal society and culture in Australia. He has also completed training in Planning for Effective Public Participation as well as Communication for Effective Public Participation with IAP2, and Effective Gender Analysis and Strategies for International Development, Capacity Development Across Cultures, Development of Practical Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Systems, and Introduction to M&E in IDA, with IDSS.

Chris speaks good PNG pidgin, as well as Solomon Islands pidgin and Bislama. He has also been known to be a musician in Canberra in his younger years and as the grey hairs blossom still loves to play music, but equally loves to spend quality time with his young son and daughter.
