Benefits of membership

The key benefit of being a member of ACFID is being part of a network of Australian NGOs that share a commitment to poverty reduction and the promotion of human rights. This enables members to be engaged in and informed by dialogue on emerging issues that affect our sector. It provides members with the opportunity to contribute to and influence decisions affecting the work and credibility of our sector.

 

Standards of ethical and effective practice

  • Supporting the ongoing development, administration and promotion of the ACFID Code of Conduct.
  • Access to information, advice, organisational development tools, seminars, workshops and support.
  • Input and access to ongoing research and development of standards for the effective delivery and evaluation of aid and development programs.

 

Representation

  • Representation by ACFID of member agency views and interests to the Australian Government and other key stakeholders
  • Access to advice from ACFID on how to take up specific agency issues with government.
  • Joint representation by ACFID and other community organisations on matters of common concern e.g. tax and charity regulation.

 

Information and support services

  • ACFID acts as a focal point for information to and about members.
  • Weekly email bulletins and current updates on a range of issues relevant and useful to the sector.
  • Annual analysis of Australia’s aid budget and the implications for NGOs.
  • Input and access to ACFID’s annual statistical survey of the sector.
  • Information updates and analysis of key issues and trends relating to development and advocacy, in Australia and internationally through various forums, seminars and bulletins.
  • Analysis and advice on regulation, accountability, accreditation and other issues that affect NGO operations.
  • Access to regular forums and occasional seminars conducted to provide members with up-to-date information relating to significant and emerging issues. For example, quarterly Member Information Forums, CEOs’ forums, Communicators’ Forums, Occasional Seminars on current issues, and ACFID working groups.
  • Access to individual advice and support on AusAID accreditation processes.

 

Training

  • Reduced prices for participation in ACFID’s core program of training and workshops.
  • Access, at member prices, to peer learning opportunities through sector-wide research, workshops and conferences.
  • Participation in workshops to assist in the application of new regulatory and reporting requirements as necessary.

 

Networking and Influence

  • Participation in and voting rights at ACFID Council and AGM.
  • Eligibility to nominate for ACFID committees — ACFID Executive Committee, the Development Practice Committee, Advocacy and Public Policy Committee and others — that have a key role in developing and implementing ACFID policy
  • Membership of ACFID member working groups — initiated and led by ACFID members around sector, regional or country themes.
  • Opportunities to engage and share experiences with other members at a variety of forums, workshops, seminars and conferences.
