Code Review

At the request of the ACFID Executive Committee, the ACFID Code of Conduct Committee has been working closely over the past nine months with consulting firm The Navigator Company to conduct a comprehensive review of the ACFID Code of Conduct.
The Review has involved broad sector consultation. Its Terms of Reference gave significant scope to recommend changes that would produce an outcome of 'an up-to-date, highly relevant, highly useful, easy to understand and world’s best practice Code of Conduct for international Aid and Development practitioners'.

ACFID’s Council meeting in October 2009 approved the way ahead proposed for the Code Review including:
  • the strategic imperatives for reform of the Code;
  • the recommended way forward;
  • the proposed new outline structure for the Code and its Guidance Document;
  •  the proposed Design Guidelines for the development of the Code and its Guidance Document; and

the indicative Preamble incorporating a proposed revised Purpose for the Code and proposed shared Values for all Signatories.

The paper outlining these directions is at ACFID Executive Committee’s report to ACFID Council 2009
The Navigator Company is now commencing reviewing and revising the Code in accordance with these directions.

A Consultation Draft will be released at the end of April to all internal, external, national and international stakeholders, with opportunities for feedback via face to face meetings, teleconferences and written submission.

The revised Code will be put to the ACFID Council in October 2010.
