What’s this workshop about?

All ACFID Code of Conduct signatories, and NGOs and contractors funded by AusAID are required to have appropriate child protection policies in place. The operationalisation of these policies can be challenging, especially so in changing contexts.

These two complementary full-day workshops will provide an opportunity for international development and aid organisations to work together in protecting children by sharing experiences and practical tools for building capacity and ownership. This will help attendees to ensure that child protection policy implemented is compliant, effective and relevant to all organisational stakeholders.

Day 1: Operationalising your child protection policy

  • Revised AusAID policy- overview and questions
  • Creating locally relevant child protection procedures. What have we learned?
  • Focus on child protection, social media and marketing communications

Day 2: Challenges in implementation

  • Working with local partners in different and challenging contexts.
  • Child protection risk analysis , monitoring and review strategies
  • Prioritising child protection in field based programming

By the end of the workshop, participants will be equipped with the resources and knowledge to operationalise child protection within their organisation and with partners in different contexts.

The main presenters will be Lisa Schultz, Child Protection Advisor, Plan, and Fiona Williams, Child Protection Coordinator, Save the Children

Training format

Each workshop will involve a mix of presentations, discussions, and exercises. Participants are encouraged to share experiences, tools and ideas both prior to and during the training.

Participants will be provided with a resource folder for reference during and after the workshop. Bring along your organisation’s policy and any child protection policy procedures or tools to share.
