| | | ACFID conducts a statistical survey of ACFID members and Code of Conduct signatories every year. The information gathered provides an up-to-date overview of the Australian aid and development sector with regard to finances, personnel and the countries and sectors to which organisations are directing their support. | | | In 2008: - The Australian public donated $812.19 million to aid and development work through Australian NGOs. This is an increase of around 4.15% compared
with the previous year. This figure makes up around 76% of total funds raised by agencies and includes funds raised from donations, fundraisers, bequests and company donations. - 1.13 million Australians were donors to regular supporter programs (child sponsorship or regular donor programs), an 8% decrease on the previous year. In all however, 1,689,009 people were involved in supporting an overseas aid and development NGO—either as a regular supporter, by supporting a fundraiser or event or giving a one-off donation. This represents a small 1% increase from the previous year in community support of the aid and development sector.
- There were 23,037 volunteers who contributed their time to the work of ACFID member agencies and Code of Conduct signatory organisations.
- Australian Government funding for NGOs through AusAID amounted to $130.67 million in 2008, which represents a 33.7% increase on 2007. AusAID funding contributes to around 12.3% of the total funds managed by the sector.
- Grants from other Australian and multi-lateral donors made up around 11.4% of total funds raised by the sector, amounting to $121 million in 2008. This represents a 43% increase on 2007 when the figure was around $84.5 million.
