Objective 1 |
Ensure active Australian support for the Millennium Development Goals |

1.1 Build on the growing community interest in development issues |
| Use public forums and media opportunities, as well as links with ACFID’s network of alliances, to increase public awareness of development issues. |

1.2 Build effective working relationships with organisations outside the Australian development NGO sector |
| Implement a strategy to expand links to relevant think tanks, universities, like-minded peak bodies, business councils and overseas agencies. |

1.3 Increase ACFID’s infl uence on Australian aid policy development |
| Sustain regular dialogue with policy-makers and opinion-leaders based on the development of analytical capacity and the establishment of a strong evidence base for ACFID claims. Coordinate with the MPH campaign and alliance partners to maximise the combined effect of lobbying. |

Objective 2 |
Lead a credible and accountable NGO sector that is capable of meeting global and local challenges |

2.1 Support the organisational development of members |
| Assist members in their efforts to increase organisational effectiveness, including through ACFID events, training, website information and support for peer-to-peer learning. This includes encouraging members to utilise ACFID’s organisational assessment tool, promoting innovation and the development of an organisational learning culture, as well as improved human resource practices. |

2.2 Promote high quality aid and development practices among member organisations |
| Continue research on NGO development effectiveness, ensure the fi ndings are widely shared and promote them being acted upon within the sector through ACFID’s committees and working groups, meetings, seminars, and the ACFID website. |

2.3 Promote public confi dence in the integrity of the ACFID Code of Conduct and support its further development |
| Use meetings with policy-makers, media and public forums to promote awareness of the Code of Conduct and to urge non-signatory development NGOs to join it. Support efforts to ensure that the Code of Conduct meets emerging accountability needs. |

2.4 Provide leadership on possible changes to the national regulatory environment, including in relation to taxation, disclosure of information, fundraising and other issues which affect members. |
| Draw effectively on the knowledge of ACFID members and alliance partners to infl uence legislative and regulatory changes impacting on the sector and contribute actively to an improvement in the national non-profi t regulatory framework. |

2.5 Promote the role and contribution of the sector nationally and internationally with a particular focus on the Asia and Pacific region |
| Implement a public affairs strategy which demonstrates the effective performance of the Australian development NGO sector and its strong focus on accountability. Build on the emerging alliance with Asian NGO leaders and the strong existing links with Pacifi c Island counterparts to promote members’ objectives. |

Objective 3 |
Ensure that ACFID is a healthy, effective and responsive organisation |

3.1 Strengthen ACFID’s leadership role in building the collective capacity of the sector |
| Design ACFID’s annual program of events, training, public affairs and research with a view to strengthening the collective capacity of the sector. This would include a particular focus on assisting smaller agencies. |

3.2 Ensure a high quality of services to members and opportunities for their participation in the range of ACFID work |
| Carry out research on member needs and design services accordingly. Implement a communications strategy to ensure awareness of ACFID’s objectives, resource capacity and membership services among existing members and use improved web-based methods to promote access and participation by members. |

3.3 Be a credible voice for the aid and development sector both within Australia and internationally |
| Create a stronger research and analysis capacity to support ACFID’s lobbying efforts by drawing on contributions from ACFID’s advisory committees, working groups, individual member agencies and alliances. |

3.4 Increase ACFID’s membership |
| Actively promote awareness of the benefi ts of membership to non-member development NGOs, especially non-member Code of Conduct signatories. |

3.5 Ensure that work practices for the ACFID Secretariat provide a good model for the sector |
| Enact best practice in human resource management for the Secretariat and provide suffi cient resources for staff to carry out the work-plan effectively. |
