What’s this learning event about?
This workshop provides a framework for understanding the key actors and issues within the Australian aid and development NGO sector, and where they fit within the international context.
Who should attend?
This workshop is aimed primarily at staff new to the sector, staff returning from an extended absence overseas or those simply wanting to update their knowledge on developments within Australia’s aid and development sector.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop participants will have a broad understanding of
- The history of the aid and development sector
- Current trends and themes within the sector
- Key international and Australian players
- The Australian Government’s funding and regulation of the aid and development sector, including the role of AusAID
- ACFID’s role as peak body for the sector and the key elements of the Code of Conduct
Facilitator/s
The workshop will be facilitated by experienced sector consultant Jan Cossar and Ann Tothill, ACFID’s Learning and Development facilitator, with input from AusAID.
Training format
The workshop will involve a mix of presentations, discussions, and exercises. Participants are encouraged to share experiences, tools and ideas. Participants will be provided with a resource folder for reference during and after the workshop.
